Disk IO

The Disk IO trend graph indicates the level of disk activity within a server over time. Disk IO is an important performance metric for web servers as disks are often a major bottleneck that can be responsible for slow web site performance. This is particularly true of database driven websites.

In the above sample, we can see that at 2am a high rate of Blocks In was recorded, indicating that a large volume of data was written to the disk(s) during that time.

Blocks Out represents data being read from the disks. Both measurements are expressed in terms of blocks in/out in a 5 minute period.
