Why am I not receiving email alerts?

The most common cause of failed delivery of alert emails is spam filtering software blocking the message. The first step is to whitelist all emails originating from the wormly.com domain in your mail configuration.

Some email accounts will simply send our alerts to your "spam" or "trash" folder, in which case you can generally rectify the problem by moving the relevant messages out of that folder.

However other email servers & providers block mail delivery at the TCP/IP connection level. This situation is much more difficult to fix.

You may wish to refer to our node IP address listing in order to explicitly whitelist the various IPs from which we send alert emails.

DNS Problems
Another common problem is that when a failure occurs within your infrastructure, your SMTP server may also become unreachable. One easily overlooked scenario is as follows:

The DNS servers for yourdomain.com fail during a network outage.

Our monitoring node attempts to email an alert to you@yourdomain.com, but cannot resolve the MX record in order to do so.

This situation can occur even if your mail service is outsourced to another provider (e.g. Google Apps) but your DNS continues to be hosted within your network.

The solution is to ensure you have geographically redundant DNS service for your domain names.
