Manual Installation of collectd

  1. Install collectd (version 5.4 or later) from your favourite package manager or compile from source. Remember, of course, that you can use our packages on some platforms.
  2. Create a new Wormly Host, and choose the Metrics tab from the Host Overview page.
  3. From there, download the collectd configuration file. This configuration file is specific to the Wormly host you created, so don't use it on more than one host. You can use the Wormly API to automatically create new hosts as part of your DevOps systems.
  4. Install the configuration file; usually found at /etc/collectd.conf or /etc/collectd/collectd.conf on Debian systems.
  5. Optional: Modify the configuration to enable any additional collectd plugins you desire, perhaps including filtering and aggregation.
  6. Test your collectd configuration by executing collectd -T. This should generate the following response from our API: {"ok":true}
  7. Start or re-start the collectd daemon: service collectd restart
  8. Click the "collectd has been installed" button on the Metrics tab to browse the metrics received from your host. Assuming successful data collection has started, you can start to view graphs and configure any necessary alerting.
